Day 55-58 Thursday - Sunday Jan. 21-24

Thursday, January 21 1,700 Grams is the Mark!
Craig left this afternoon for VA and my mom came for a visit with Darth in tow. This is the last haul Craig will make to VA bringing Darth, freezer chest full of breast milk and the acquired weight bench home. It also is a chance for him to get things in order with CVT and wrap up and prepare things at the house before Wyatt is brought home.

This morning we were told Wyatt will be moving back to Nursery G per our request because we like it better. I mean the Satellite Nursery lighting was literally giving me migraines. The move happened late afternoon and we got a sweet spot in the corner of the nursery.

Wyatt is doing great maintaining his temperature. Because he is maintaining a good temp they will be trying him out in an open crib. Yea!!! Being in an open crib means they will be watching his weight closely and weighing him every night. It's all about his weight not burning calories. I spoke to Dr. Boura and NP Chris. They tell me that Wyatt just needs to hit 1,700 (just under 4lbs) grams in order to be discharged. They predict by the end of next week he will GO TO THE ZOO. NICU is a very superstitious place. You do not say the real words for things (ie Zoo=Home).

Friday, January 22
My mom left (she stayed overnight) and Humma comes for a visit. It's nice to have visitors especially when Craig is away. All is stabil today.

Saturday, January 23
I learned this morning that Wyatt's weigh in last night was a loss. What, a loss! 1,564 to 1,522 grams. I decide to adjust his feedings (consulted NP and lactation consultant). Eliminate back to back breast feeding (because he may be burning to many calories) and alternate with bottle feeds. With the bottle feeds he will get a bump on his human milk fortifier that is put into the breast milk. It gives him more calories. I am desperate to beef this little guy up.

Sunday, January 24
1,615!!! What a gain.....what a pork chop! Karen (NP) thinks he really didn't have much of a loss the other night. Ok, now we are back on track. Monday he will get blood work done to see if his hematocrit has gone up since the last time and the boost with his iron supplement. Karen also thinks if all goes accordingly maybe by Thursday we will be discharged. It is a crazy rollercoaster......you never know when things will change. We hope change only for the best.
