Day 30-32 - Sunday-Tuesday, December 27-29

Sunday, December 27: Hurry we have to get back to Syracuse to see Wyatt. So anxious to get back to the hospital my parents place. We don't get there until 4pm....right away I kangaroo. I don't want to miss out on getting as much time to hold him as possible. No big news today.....just that he is doing good...keep on keepin' on Wyatt!

Monday, December 28: Big day! As soon as we arrive at the hospital Mary greets us with a, "Guess what is different?" Craig and I both search for a few seconds and realize Wyatt has NO nasal cannula in! NO nasal cannula. Yes that is right he is breathing on his own. Well it is a trial run being totally off vapotherm (high flow, high pressure oxygen) and no nasal cannula. His feedings are going well also. Craig let's me kangaroo him hoping mommys heart sounds and breathing will help him develop his breathing now that he is off all breathing assistance. Wyatt does well all day and ends the day with a great tubby time weigh in. Daddy's night to bath. We all take bets on what he weighs....he comes in at 1,255 grams. I win!

Tuesday, December 29: Spoke too soon. We arrive to see Wyatt has a nasal cannula on. Which is fine....he wasn't ready. Plus this nasal cannula is the regular one. Low pressure oxygen.....and just a smidge. Barely enough but just enough to help him out.....25mls of O2. To balance out the cannula being put back on we find out his morning eye exam went great. The exam was to test to see if he has retinopothy. A condition that preemies can get because of high flow oxygen and ventilators. Basically too much oxygen can damage the growth of their retina.....abnormal growth of the retina. Leading to the possibility of preemies having varying degrees of visual problems. WYATT SHOWS NO SIGNS! Yippee! He does have a followup exam in two weeks. Back in the saddle with his feedings and doing well....not giving them back...up to 8mls.
