Well slightly behind on the blog this week, sorry everyone. :) The week all in all was a very consistent week. Not a bad thing especially because Wyatt is doing so well.
Monday, December 21st seemed to be a pretty normal day with Wyatt taking his feedings (6mls every two hours). He is however giving quite a bit back back on several of them. Did I explain how the feedings are administered? It escapes me. Basically he gets my breast milk fed to him from a syringe through his feeding tube (feeding tube is inserted through his mouth down his throat). The nurse every two hours takes an empty syringe and connects it to his feeding tube. She pulls back on the syringe to pull out any air and anything in his stomach to check to see if he has digested the previous feeding, what color of the digested milk is if anything is left and how much. This determines if he is tolerating the amount of the next feeding. Wyatt's desats and bradys have decreased in frequency quite dramatically to an average of two a day. Thinking that all was pretty normal in nursery A that day we were surprised to find out from our nurse that evening that Wyatt has graduated to a less intense nursery and would be moving at the 7pm shift change. Yahoo! Wyatt is moving to nursery D! Craig and I helped get his stuff together and also got to help the nurse move him.
Nursery D: A quieter environment because the alarms are not going off as frequently as the intense nursery A (nurseries A, B and C are the high intensity and most critical care nurseries). Nursery D is a more progressive nursery.
Tuesday, December 22nd: We arrive at the NICU and had to remind ourselves to go to nursery D not A. We find out from our nurse that morning everything is going well however they had to decrease Wyatt's feedings back to 3mls because he is giving too much back. The good thing is he is pooping on his own so that means things are moving. So 3mls every two hours and they will start to increase him daily again. Just all part of the process of maturing his digestive system. Craig and I learned also Wyatt got his bath and weigh in Monday evening. Bath times are now Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays in nursery D. He weighed in at 1,105grams = 2.46lbs! So far he is gaining at every weigh in.
Wednesday, December 23rd: Christmas is almost here! Craig and I have to finish our holiday shopping and stuff. Very strange for us to be celebrating Wyatt's first Christmas already. We have nurse Jackie today! All reports are great.....Wyatt is taking his feedings so they will consider increasing his feedings. I am feeling a little tired this week and dealing with a pulled groin. I need to remember to go easy on carrying things considering I just had a c-section. It is hard to remember this when your head is just thinking about what needs to be done in a day in our situation...schlepping stuff back and forth to the hospital. Wyatt weighed in at 1,146 grams today!
Thursday, December 24th: Christmas Eve! Wyatt has Mary today! We are lucky people to have our two favorite nurses one day after another. Wyatt's feedings were increased to 4mls. Our plan is to leave for Craig's parents late afternoon to celebrate Christmas. My plan is to make Wyatt's kangaroo care that day the longest to date b/c we have to leave him overnight. He really loves his kangaroo care....I held him for three hours and put him back in his isolette all by myself with Mary looking on. Bye Wyatt we'll see you Christmas day late afternoon!
Friday, December 25th: Merry Christmas! All is merry on this day and all is well with Wee Wyatt! Nurse relays nothing has changed (which is a good thing) except for his feedings. He got an increase to 5mls! We are back up and hopefully it sticks. The day is going great....one of my gifts from Craig was a beautiful letter (it made me cry) and a Ipod Nano which is great because it has the video camera function. We'll start posting some short videos of the little guy. Craig and I get to the hospital late afternoon....Craig Christmas kangarooed Wyatt for Craig's longest kangaroo care to date, 2 1/2 hrs. I think he is competing with me secretly. We had a great Christmas day with our boy singing carols, reading Christmas books, etc.
Saturday, December 26th: Missing a day with Wyatt. Going to visit the family in Croghan for the annual Christmas party (here we come Darth!) but before that we will go to the viewing of Jim and Angela's little angel Briana who passed away.
